SUSECon 2026: SUSE and Cloudbase Solutions Partner to Automate Virtualization Migrations for Hybrid Cloud Workloads

Making workloads migrations to SUSE Virtualization with zero service interruptions

SUSE, a reference of enterprise open source solutions, announced a new automated migration partnership designed to transition virtualized workloads from VMware and public clouds to open source infrastructure.By integrating the Coriolis migration tool from partner Cloudbase Solutions into the SUSE Virtualization stack, IT teams can now migrate virtual machines with zero service interruptions. This addresses the technical barriers associated with infrastructure modernization, specifically the risk of downtime and manual data transfer.

“Customers are tired of being locked into proprietary ecosystems that dictate their budget and their roadmap,” said Frank Feldmann, Chief Strategy Officer, SUSE. “By partnering with Cloudbase and integrating Coriolis, we are making the migration to SUSE Virtualization a non-event, while enabling customers to modernize their infrastructure on a single platform that runs both virtual machines and containers with consistent cloud-native principles. Whether you are coming from VMware, or repatriating workloads from hyperscalers, we are providing a seamless path to a more resilient, open and cost-effective future.”

Solving the “Migration Risk” Problem
Businesses wanting to leave expensive virtualization contracts face the risk of downtime and the manual labor involved in migrations. This partnership provides a solution to those hurdles:

  • Migrate While Running: The Coriolis tool performs non-disruptive migrations, ensuring applications stay online while data is transferred. This eliminates the need for long maintenance windows or weekend service outages
  • Broad Compatibility: Customers can pull workloads from vSphere, as well as perform cloud repatriation – migrating virtual machines from public clouds back to their own data centres without downtime
  • No New Silos: Once migrated, these VMs run on SUSE Virtualization. This allows IT teams to manage legacy virtual machines and modern containers (Kubernetes) using a single cohesive platform

“Our mission with Coriolis has always been to remove the friction from cloud migrations, and partnering with SUSE allows us to do that at an enterprise scale,” said Alessandro Pilotti, CEO, Cloudbase Solutions. “By integrating our agentless migration technology directly into the SUSE Virtualization stack, we are ensuring that customers no longer have to choose between staying with a legacy provider or risking downtime. Together, we are providing a ‘warm’ migration path that keeps businesses running while they transition to a more open, agile infrastructure.”

Specific Support for SAP Environments
SUSE has also verified a specific migration path for SAP application servers and SAP HANA databases. With many enterprises running their most critical business processes on SAP, choice is paramount for their business continuity. Migrating mission-critical SAP workloads involves significant complexity, as customers must satisfy stringent performance requirements and alignment with SAP’s certified hypervisor ecosystem to ensure continued support and compliance. This ensures that even the most complex, high-performance databases can be migrated to the SUSE KVM-based certified hypervisor part of SUSE Linux Enterprise for SAP applications without losing the stability or certification required for enterprise operations.

Migration solution available today
The Coriolis migration tool is available to SUSE customers starting today and supports a wide range of migration scenarios, including virtual machine workload and SAP environments.
