Leaseweb Accelerates Development of Europe’s Sovereign Cloud

New platform developments, growing community engagement and ecosystem collaboration highlight increasing momentum behind Leaseweb's sovereign cloud initiatives

Leaseweb, a cloud services and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) provider, highlighted the growing momentum behind Europe’s sovereign cloud initiatives through new developments in its European Cloud Campus project, part of the Important Projects of Common European Interest on Cloud Infrastructure and Services (IPCEI-CIS) program.Leaseweb Logo 1767706443Over the past year, Leaseweb has expanded its cloud infrastructure platform while actively engaging the developer and partner ecosystem, showcasing how European industry is moving from policy discussions to building practical, sovereign cloud infrastructure. The company has made significant progress in creating a flexible and scalable sovereign cloud for Europe, with the public cloud compute layer now supporting autoscaling and load balancing, and storage over a private network completed to enhance security and efficiency. Architectural improvements, including programmable virtual overlay networking, are underway to increase network flexibility. Leaseweb also released its initial compute API with open definitions, alongside a Terraform provider, enabling automation and developer integration. Platform monitoring, management tools, and an internal management interface have been rolled out and are continuously expanding.

In addition to technology development, Leaseweb actively engaged with the broader cloud and infrastructure community throughout 2025. The company hosted and participated in several industry events, including the Leaseweb Tech Summit, Cloud Resilience Roundtable, and World Open Innovation Conference 2025, bringing together partners, developers, and infrastructure experts to discuss the future of European cloud and digital sovereignty. The 58 open-source contributions on various open-source projects in 2025, highlighting the growing momentum behind sovereign cloud initiatives and the importance of collaboration between industry stakeholders and technology providers.
