FujiFilm North America Announces U.S. Availability of 40TB LTO Ultrium Gen 10 Data Cartridges
Up to 100TB compressed (2.5:1 compression), up to 400MB/s native transfer rate and up to 1,000MB/s compressed transfer rate
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 6, 2026 at 2:01 pmFujiFilm North America Corp., data storage solutions division, announced availability in the United States of the FujiFilm LTO Ultrium 10 (40TB) data cartridge, the company’s highest data storage capacity of its LTO Ultrium tape media to date.
The FujiFilm LTO-10 40TB cartridge brings next-gen scalability, cybercrime resilience, and cost-efficient storage to organizations facing today’s unprecedented data growth.
Built on the company’s advanced magnetic particles (a hybrid of Barium Ferrite and Strontium Ferrite) and aramid base film technologies, the FujiFilm LTO-10 40TB cartridge delivers 40TB native capacity and up to 100TB compressed, offering a significant leap over previous LTO tape generations and enabling enterprises to store massive datasets with minimal floorspace requirements. In addition, the firm’s LTO-10 40TB cartridges offer expanded operational temperature and humidity range from prior LTO generations for use in demanding physical environments.
“In this age of AI technology, user data volumes are exploding more than ever before and are of increasing value. Organizations need storage solutions that are both economically sustainable and operationally resilient,” said Takuma Yano, GM, data storage solutions, FujiFilm North America. “With the introduction of FujiFilm’s LTO-10 40TB in the U.S., we’re giving customers a powerful new tool for building long-term storage solutions that keep data accessible, protected, and cost efficient for decades. FujiFilm continues its long-term commitment to advancing tape technology as a cornerstone of modern data management.”
Available in United States market
The April 2 availability provides U.S. organizations in M&E, finance, hyperscale cloud, HPC research, healthcare, and other data intensive sectors the ability to expand or modernize their data storage infrastructure. FujiFilm LTO Ultrium 10 40TB cartridges integrate with current LTO-10 tape drive systems, enabling straightforward adoption without disruptive hardware changes.

Meeting Demands of AI and Active Archive
As organizations increasingly adopt active archive strategies to support long-term retention of AI-related training data to balance performance, cost, and data protection, LTO tape continues to play a critical role.
The company’s LTO-10 40TB cartridge strengthens that role by offering:
- Low lifecycle cost/TB. Tape remains an economical long-term storage medium, enabling organizations to cost effectively scale archives without escalating operational energy or infrastructure costs
- Built-in cybercrime resilience. Offline, air-gapped storage provides a powerful defense against ransomware and other cyber threats, ensuring data integrity even in compromised environments
- Energy efficient data retention. Tape consumes no power at rest, dramatically reducing operational energy usage as compared to other storage media that may consume power 24/7
- High-capacity media optimized for active archive workflows. With rapid data recall, predictable performance, and compatibility with existing LTO-10 tape drives, the new FujiFilm LTO-10 tape cartridge supports active archive architectures where data must remain accessible, searchable, and secure over decades
