History 2003: Howard Elias Lands at EMC as EVP of New Ventures

Leaving HP where he was SVP of business management and operations for enterprise systems group

The escape hatch for storage executives from Hewlett-Packard to EMC is as active as ever.

Howard Elias, 46, our “favorite” interview subject, has left HP, where he was SVP of business management and operations for the enterprise systems group, after serving as SVP and GM of the network storage solutions.

At EMC, about which he hasn’t spared his words in the past (“EMC’s business model is no longer relevant,” he declared in BusinessWeek dated September 2, 2002), he will now hold the position of EVP of new ventures, reporting directly to CEO Joe Tucci.

He thus joins a number of his former HP colleagues: Mark Lewis, Mark Sorenson and John Koury.

Elias will manage EMC’s emerging businesses such as Centera operations and help identify new opportunities in information lifecycle management.

This article is an abstract of news published on issue 190 on October 2003 from the former paper version of Computer Data Storage Newsletter.
