History 2000: CEO Chuck Haggerty Leaves WD

Replaced Matt Massengill

Haggerty Western DigitalChuck A. Haggerty, 58, has been a model boss at Western Digital for the past 7 years. No more.

He was supposed to leave the company next June.

Instead, he left in mid-January, replaced in his capacities as CEO and president by former COO Matthew E. Massengill, 38, who has been in-house for 14 years, and as chairman by Thomas E. Perdun, 56.

The latter is president of MediaOne, which he is leaving as soon as the company concludes its merger with AT&T, and was already a member of WD’s board of directors, since 1993.

This article is an abstract of news published on issue 144 on January 2000 from the former paper version of Computer Data Storage Newsletter.
