IBM 7226 Model 1U3 Multimedia Enclosure adds IBM Linear Tape-Open (LTO) 9 tape drive features for increased capacity and reliability

IBM Storage offers half-height Linear Tape-Open 9 (HHLTO9) higher capacity tape drive features to the list of LTO tape, RDX, and DVD storage options.

HHLTO9 tape drive features offer increased capacity compared to the half-height LTO-8 (HHLTO8) tape drives currently available on IBM 7226 Model 1U3 Multimedia Enclosures.

They deliver external tape, removable disk drive, and DVD-RAM drive options intended to enable the storage, retrieval, and archival of critical business, technical and scientific data in computer hardware facilities. It offers a list of drive feature options.

Ibm 7226 Model 1u3 Multimedia Enclosure

7226 enclosures can accommodate up to 2 tape drives, 2 RDX removable disk drive docking stations, or up to 4 DVD-RAM drives.

Model 1U3 attaches to most POWER6, POWER7, POWER8, POWER9, POWER10, PureFlex systems, POWER, and BladeCenters, and to systems running Linux and Windows.

These SAS, FC, and USB device features may be installed in 7226 dual-bay storage enclosures in any combination, and are supported on IBM POWER AIX, IBM i, and Linux OSs. 7226 is also compatible with most OEM OSs running Linux or Windows.

Mandatory software
7226 Multimedia Enclosure is compatible with most POWER6, POWER7, POWER8, POWER9, and POWER10 systems, as well as BladeCenter models (PS700, PS701, PS702, PS703, and PS704) and PureFlex systems that offer current level AIX, IBM i, and LINUX OSs.

System support of 7226 features

  • POWER Systems support all SAS, USB, and FC tape drives, DVD-RAM, and RDX removable drive features on 7226 enclosures.
    BladeCenters support DAT160, HHLTO5, HHLTO6, HHLTO7 HHLTO8, and HHLTO9 SAS tape drive features, and also support attachment of RDX removable drive features on the 7226.
  • BladeCenters do not support DVD-RAM device or LTO FC tape drive attachment.
  • PureFlex systems support attachment of HHLTO5, HHLTO6, HHLTO7, HHLTO8 and HHLTO9 FC tape drive features, DVD-RAM USB drive features, and RDX removable drive features. They do not support SAS tape drives and DVD-RAM devices.

Note: All new IBM tape device drivers will be posted to the web through the Fix Central download portal. The company maintains the latest levels of storage tape drive and library device drivers and documentation on the Internet.
