History (1996): Bristol, UK in Charge of All HP Tape Activity

Which already heads DAT business

Hewlett-Packard’s Information Storage Group (Boise, ID) reorganized its tape storage business by combining the activities of Colorado Memory Systems or CMS (Loveland, CO) and Computer Peripherals Bristol or CPB (Bristol, UK) under the leadership of CPB, which already heads the DAT activity.

CMS will continue to provide manufacturing for QIC and Travan drives and support for the CBP marketing and R&D functions at the Loveland facility.

It will also focus its management effort on further development of CD-E drives and new technologies such as DVD.

On the other hand, optical libraries are HP’s responsibility in Greeley, CO.

Since giving up HDDs, HP is positioning itself as the leader in “extended storage,” a term declined by the company.
