Gresham Integrates Hifn Compression Card
Into its VTL
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on December 5, 2008 at 3:23 pmHifn announced that Gresham Enterprise Storage, Inc., has chosen Hifn’s Express DR 1050 capacity optimization cards to integrate into its innovative Clareti Storage Director, the industry’s only tape virtualization and backup virtualization solution. Utilizing the Hifn Express DR 1050 card Gresham can effectively double the capacity of disk and tape devices attached to the Clareti Storage Director, enabling customers to save on operating costs including power, cooling and space.
Gresham’s Clareti Storage Director is the complete backup/restore virtualization suite that delivers levels of performance and functionality designed to improve backup/recovery times, reduce costs, and provide operational efficiencies. It is also the industry’s first real-time backup virtualization solution to integrate data protection management and heterogeneous tape library consolidation. The Clareti Storage Director minimizes operational costs associated with data backup and restoration in enterprise environments.
“Data compression is an invaluable tool to help offset the unrelenting storage growth and save customer’s time and resources, which is only feasible with a hardware-accelerated, in-line solution such as the Express DR cards,” said Ed Ahl, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Gresham. “The value proposition of Hifn’s Express DR cards complements the Clareti Storage Director’s value proposition – provide our customers with a high-performance, capacity-optimized backup/restore virtualization solution that reduces operating costs.”
The addition of the Hifn capacity optimization card in the Clareti Storage Director provides an enterprise-class, hardware-accelerated data reduction solution designed to mitigate exponential growth in stored data, improve total cost of ownership, and provide a green option for customers. The DR 1050 offloads the industry-standard LZS lossless data compression delivering hardware-advantaged compression performance of up to 962 MByte/sec. Up to four DR 1050 cards per node can be added to scale performance up to 3.8 Gbytes/sec. Hifn’s zero-defect data design ensures compressed data reliability with 100 percent data verification and CRC validation.
“Gresham has recognized the value of hardware-accelerated data compression in changing the value proposition of enterprise storage systems,” said Mike Goldgof, vice president, product marketing at Hifn. “By adding our Express DR 1050 card to the Clareti Storage Director, Gresham has joined with the industry’s elite as more than 70 percent of the world’s data networks and storage systems vendors rely on Hifn data reduction technology.”
