QLogic Converged Network Adapter and 8Gb FC Products Certified With Oracle

Enterprise Linux and VM

QLogic Corp. announced certification of the QLogic 8000 Series Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) converged network adapters, QLogic 2500 Series 8Gb Fibre Channel adapters and SANbox 8Gb Fibre Channel switches on Oracle Enterprise Linux versions 4.7 and 5.2. In addition, QLogic 2500 Series adapters are now certified with Oracle VM.

In addition to the certification, these products are fully tested and supported for deployment as part of the Oracle Validated Configurations Program for Linux. Oracle Validated Configurations are pre-tested, validated architectures with software, hardware, storage, and networking components with documented best practices for fast, easy, low-cost deployment. Oracle and its strategic partners offer and recommend these configurations to achieve standardization and to enable end-users to deploy fully tested solutions with high performance, scalability, and reliability while lowering infrastructure costs.

Oracle is committed to delivering comprehensive, integrated, and fully tested solutions to help drive the adoption of Linux in the enterprise and reduce IT infrastructure costs,” said Monica Kumar, senior director, Linux and Open Source Product Marketing, Oracle. “By working with storage and data networking leaders like QLogic to deliver deployment best practices via the Oracle Validated Configurations Program for Linux, we are able to give end-users the ability to leverage a broad range of pre-tested configurations and accelerate the deployment of Fibre Channel and FCoE based adapters with Oracle software.

Through our continued collaboration with Oracle and the Linux community, Oracle customers can now confidently implement QLogic 8Gb Fibre Channel switches and adapters as well as QLogic 8000 Series converged network adapters as part of Oracle Validated Configurations,” said Frank Berry, vice president of marketing, QLogic Corp. “With the world’s first commercially available FCoE adapters, the lowest-power 8Gb Fibre Channel adapters and the industry’s only 8Gb Fibre Channel stackable switches, QLogic offers a compelling suite of products for Oracle customers.

Oracle Enterprise Linux and Oracle VM Provide Solutions with Enterprise-Class Support
Oracle Enterprise Linux is supported by Oracle through its Oracle Unbreakable Linux program, which delivers enterprise-class support for Linux with premier backports, comprehensive management, indemnification, testing and more. Oracle VM is server virtualization software that fully supports both Oracle and non-Oracle applications. Backed by Oracle’s world-class support organization, customers have a single point of enterprise-class support for their entire virtualization environments, including the Linux operating system, Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware, and Oracle Applications software. These and other Oracle products are certified with Oracle VM, which is available for free download.

QLogic 2500 Series Adapters — Transforming Server Connectivity into Competitive Advantage
The QLogic 2500 Series is a family of 8Gb Fibre Channel-to-PCIe Gen2 adapters that are designed for next generation virtualized data centers with powerful multi-processor, multi-core servers. QLogic 2500 Series adapters are optimized for virtualization, power, RAS (reliability, availability, serviceability), security and management to transform server connectivity into competitive advantage. The 2500 Series provides complete investment protection by maintaining backward compatibility with previous Fibre Channel network and PCIe host bus speeds, and are set apart from all other 8Gb Fibre Channel adapters thanks to two breakthrough innovations under the QLogic Star Power Green Initiative — Dynamic Power Management and Cool HBA technologies. Dynamic power management is the unique ability of the QLogic 2500 to sense the type of PCI Express bus that is present and consume only the amount of power necessary to run at full speed. QLogic Cool HBA technology is the ability of QLogic products like 2500 Fibre Channel adapters to operate without any air flow, unlike competitive products which require fans to be cool.

SANbox 8Gb Fibre Channel Switches – For Superior Scalability
The SANbox 5800 Series is a family of 8Gb Fibre Channel switches designed to provide the absolute most cost-efficient way to scale a storage network. In addition to blazing 8Gb performance, SANbox 5800 Series switches help eliminate the cost and complexity of trunking inter-switch links (ISLs) with QLogic stackable switch technology that’s turbo-charged by the industry’s first implementation of 20Gb Fibre Channel.

With stackable switch technology, SAN architects can scale a fabric with no wasted ports for ISLs, fees for trunking, or disruption to the fabric, and with 20Gb Fibre Channel stack interconnects, the SANbox 5800 is the only 8Gb Fibre Channel switch with the ability to handle more than 8Gb of inter-switch traffic without the cost and complexity of trunking.

QLogic 8000 Series FCoE Converged Network Adapters — Make Your Network Fly
The QLogic 8000 Series is a family of converged network adapters designed for next-generation, virtualized and unified data centers with powerful multi-processor, multi-core servers. QLogic 8000 Series CNAs are optimized for both data and storage (FCoE) networking virtualization with superior 10GbE performance to handle large numbers of virtual machines. QLogic 8000 Series CNAs also reduce data center total cost of ownership (TCO) by enabling consolidation of data and storage networking onto a single adapter to reduce cabling, power and cooling. By using the same industry-standard storage area network (SAN) services and QLogic driver architecture already deployed with the largest installed base of Fibre Channel HBAs in the world, the QLogic 8000 Series CNAs completely protect customer investments in their existing Fibre Channel SANs.
