Neterion 10GbE Adapter Features I/O Quality of Service Technology
IOQoS delivers guaranteed bandwidth and availability for different I/O traffic in a virtualized server.
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 19, 2008 at 3:56 pmNeterion, Inc., in I/O Virtualization (IOV) in 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GbE) adapters for server and storage environments, announced the availability of its enhanced 10 GbE adapter that leverages its advanced silicon architecture to provide the industry’s only 10 GbE adapter with I/O Quality of Service (IOQoS) technology for virtualized environments.
As larger enterprises move toward increased densities in virtualized servers, traffic congestion at the I/O level has become a significant concern due to multiple workloads with different priority levels running on a single server. Neterion, the recognized market leader in delivering I/O Virtualization (IOV) for 10 GbE adapters, continues to introduce innovative solutions over high speed network interface controllers to address this issue. Neterion’s new IOQoS technology delivers guaranteed bandwidth and availability for I/O traffic based on its priority levels in a single 10 GbE adapter to extend the benefits of IOV.
The benefits of IOQoS technology are delivered through hypervisor-based software and multiple, true independent channels in Neterion’s 10 GbE adapter hardware, enabling IT managers to implement true I/O isolation and specify guaranteed bandwidth for each workload based on its priority in order to enable higher server consolidation in a virtualized environment. Additionally, with Neterion’s IOQoS capability, IT managers can now run more virtual machines (VMs) with I/O intensive applications, saving more than 50% in TCO and simplifying the management of virtualized infrastructures.
"As enterprises continue to increase the number of applications per server in a virtualized environment, they may experience contention at the I/O level," noted Joe Skorupa, Research VP at Gartner. "The ability to prioritize traffic and guarantee levels of bandwidth can enable IT managers to deploy higher levels of virtualization per server as well as run more I/O intensive applications."
"Neterion was focused on addressing customers’ needs to maintain guaranteed bandwidth for different I/O traffic within virtualized servers and therefore launched a solution with our newly introduced IOQoS technology," stated Dave Zabrowski, president and CEO of Neterion. "Although other 10 GbE adapters claim support for QoS, guaranteed bandwidth for multiple workloads with a single adapter can only be achieved with true hardware-based, non-blocking, independent I/O channels found in Neterion 10 GbE adapters."
IOQoS technology is available today for enterprise IT managers who are planning to take advantage of a more complex virtualized environment with high-end servers running multiple applications on each machine, while ensuring available bandwidth and prioritized levels of QoS.
IOQoS technology is provided through new drivers for VMware ESX servers across the entire line of Neterion’s Xframe and X3100 series adapters at no additional cost.
