SDK Starts Shipments of 250GB Hard Disk Media
For 2.5-inch HDDs
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 18, 2008 at 3:53 pmShowa Denko K.K. (SDK) has started commercial shipments of 2.5-inch hard disk (HD) media with storage capacity of 250 gigabytes per disk based on the perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology.
To the best of our knowledge, our new 2.5-inch HD media have the world’s highest storage capacity for this size available on the market today. The new product is another fourth-generation PMR media offered by SDK following the 1.89-inch media launched in August.
In addition to the 1.89- and 2.5-inch fourth-generation PMR media, SDK is making preparations for commercial production of 3.5-inch fourth-generation PMR media in an effort to expand its lineup of large-capacity media. As the new 2.5-inch 250 gigabyte HD media will contribute to the production of smaller hard disk drives (HDDs) with larger storage capacity, they will be used in small notebook PCs that deal with moving pictures.
SDK has been making aggressive investments in the HD media business, developing world-leading technologies. As the world’s largest independent HD media supplier, SDK will continue meeting customer requirements both in terms of quality and quantity.
