SMEStorage Opening its Platform to Amazon S3 Users

Limited 1,000 user beta trial before being available to all users

TheSMESpace service SMEStorage announced that it is opening its core platform to any Amazon S3 user to use as part of a service called OpenS3. The service will initially be available as part of a limited 1,000 user beta trial before being available to all users.

CEO Ian Osborne states: "Initially we used Amazon S3 to store users’ data who registered with SMEStorage but we realized there were many Amazon S3 users out there who were put off or did not have access to the cheap storage that Amazon provides. We are therefore excited to make this announcement and believe it will provide many benefits to existing and new Amazon S3 users. By opening up our platform it means any Amazon S3 user can use our platform and access their S3 data through our rich web file manager, through their Apple iPhone, their mobile or through iGoogle or Facebook. Users will also be able to take advantage of such features as sharing their files, collaborating using business groups and also integrations with services such as Zoho office, PicniK and Scribd which means they will have real time access to edit documents and pictures as well as read PDFs."

Osborne goes on to say: "We firmly believe that what you can do with data, how you can get access to it, and how it integrates with others will become more important as each individual accumulates more digital data."

SMEStorage provides access to data using various channels such as a rich web client, iGoogle, iPhone, Mobile, Facebook and Joomla. It uses Amazon S3 to store its data and provides new users with 250MB free.
