New Family of Adaptec RAID Series 5 Unified Serial Controllers

The Adaptec RAID Series 5 family consists of seven new controllers offering a choice of 4, 8, 12, 16 or 24-ports. The controllers are designed to deliver performance and advanced data protection for high-capacity SATA and high-end SAS drives in bandwidth-intensive, high-density server applications including network attached storage (NAS), online transaction processing (OTLP), web, digital surveillance, and streaming applications.
The new controllers are equipped with industry-leading dual core RAID on Chip (ROC), x8 PCI-Express connectivity, and 512MB of DDR2 cache which, combined, deliver 250,000 I/Os per second and 1.2GB/s. System builders using these controllers can connect up to 256 SATA/SAS devices, using SAS expanders, and offer their customers data protection RAID levels 0, 1, 1E, 5, 5EE, 6, 10, 50, 60, JBOD, and Copyback Hot Spare.
The Adaptec RAID Series 5 family consists of the following seven solutions: the 5405 with 4 internal ports; the 5805 with 8 internal ports; the 5445 with 4 internal and 4 external ports; the 5085 with eight external ports; the 51245 with 12 internal and 4 external ports; the 51645 controller with 16 internal and 4 external ports; the 52445 with 24 internal and 4 external ports.
