Partnership Between ONSITE3 and Index Engines

To enable clients to locate and extract relevant data stored on offline tapes

ONSITE3, a global
provider of litigation support and electronic evidence solutions for law
firms and corporations, and Index Engines announced a strategic partnership in conjunction
with the availability of ONSITE3’s new Advanced Tape Discovery
service. Powered by Index Engines, the new service enables clients to locate
and surgically extract relevant data stored on offline tapes without having
to first utilize a full tape restoration process.

"ONSITE3’s new Advanced Tape Discovery
enables legal and audit teams to quickly assess the content of offline tapes
at a fraction of the time and cost associated with traditional tape
restoration services,
” said Robert Ballou, chief executive officer, ONSITE3.
"Packaging this technology into a fully-managed eDiscovery solution, we have
already engaged with a number of customers, including the Pension Benefit
Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), as announced last month by Index Engines
."

According to a recent Index Engines’ press release,
PBGC is a federal corporation created by the Employee Retirement Income
Security Act of 1974. PBGC selected Index Engines offline tape discovery
technology to perform comprehensive data indexing for 45,000 tapes
containing offline data retained over a 10 year period. ONSITE3
was also selected to manage the project, enabling PBGC to speed the
electronic discovery process by rapidly indexing archived data without
requiring the time consuming process of tape restoration. As a result, PBGC
will only need to restore what they need, rather than the entire tape
contents, significantly saving time and money.

"Offline tapes can present clients with one of the most
difficult obstacles during the discovery process
,” said Jeffery Fehrman,
president of EELabs, a division of ONSITE3. "Our Advanced Tape
Discovery is designed to expedite the early assessment process for offline
tapes, as well as to facilitate a full eDiscovery process while still
maintaining the same high standards for forensically sound methodologies and
chain of custody documentation. ONSITE3’s adherence with these
high standards ensures that produced evidence is both admissible and
defensible in court
."

As a member of Index Engines Litigation Readiness
program, ONSITE3 is able to bring their customers the latest in
offline tape discovery technology,
” said Jim McGann, vice president of
marketing, Index Engines. “The combination of ONSITE3’s services
with our platform is changing the way the industry is approaching offline
data discovery
.”

Key advantages of ONSITE3’s Advanced Tape
Discovery service include:

  • Eliminates
the need to restore tape contents in order to search them. Advanced Tape
Discovery converts archival tape contents into a searchable repository
without needing to install the original backup software. The tape
contents are immediately searchable, both the full content and metadata.
  • Simplifies
the restore process by returning query results with tape ID and file
location. Users can indicate the files to restore in the query results
window and then the system will automatically generate a request to
    ONSITE3 with all relevant information.
  • Reduces
time and potential fines and penalties by providing high-speed indexing
of offline data. ONSITE3 is able to process a multitude of
tapes simultaneously, thus ensuring fast turnaround for the client.
  • Proactive
indexing minimizes risks by delivering a comprehensive index including
full content, file metadata, security and user attributes for all
    offline electronic records.
