Riverbed Counter-Attacks Quantum on De-Dup Patent
By Jean Jacques Maleval | January 21, 2008 at 3:20 pmRiverbed has filed a patent complaint against Quantum and Rocksoft, an Australian start-up acquired by ADIC and then Quantum, on the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.
Quantum already filed the same kind of complaint against Riverbed in the Northern District of California in August 2007.
Quantum is putting forward its Patent No. 5,990,810, dated November 23, 1999, “Method for Partitioning a block of data into subblocks and for storing and communications subblocks”, invented by Ross Neil Williams, from Australia, one of the former owner of Roksoft.
Remember also that Quantum got shares in its de-dup rival Data Domain when the latter filed for an IPO last year in exchange of a cross-licensing deal to avoid future lawsuits.
