OVHcloud and Plakar Integrate Backup Natively into Public Cloud

Continuing its open source journey with on-premise and cloud strategy

OVHcloud, a player and European cloud provider, and Plakar, a French open-source software company specializing in data resilience, are natively integrating backup into OVHcloud’s Public Cloud.Customers keep their keys, and copies stay in Europe.

Backup, a core cloud function
Protecting a cloud environment still means assembling several pieces of software depending on the products used, virtual machines, Kubernetes, managed databases, then adding storage, a contract and skills. From now on, backup becomes a service in its own right, multi-product, managed directly from the OVHcloud environment, from traditional applications to AI workloads.

Restore anywhere, without depending on your cloud
Every backup remains portable: customers can restore their data elsewhere, including outside OVHcloud. They alone hold the keys. Plakar restores an application’s entire environment, right through to AI workloads.

“Backup is a core cloud function, just like compute or networking. We are integrating it natively, true to our principles of openness and reversibility,” said Yaniv Fdida, CPTO, OVHcloud.

“Attacks now eventually succeed: backup is no longer a company’s last line of defense, it is the first. We are proud to make it native at OVHcloud, and to protect that many companies in the process, without ever locking their data in,” said Julien Mangeard, co-founder and CEO, Plakar.
