Open Compute Project Foundation Launches Collaboration Acceleration Fund to Advance Open Hardware Innovation
Wishing to continue the collaboration within the hardware ecosystem
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on April 9, 2026 at 2:00 pmThe Open Compute Project (OCP) Foundation announced the recent launch of its Collaboration Acceleration Fund, a new initiative designed to empower collaborative innovation across the open hardware ecosystem by supporting projects that cannot easily take shape outside of the OCP Community.
The Fund addresses a critical gap in the industry: many high-potential ideas require multi-stakeholder coordination, shared infrastructure, and neutral governance – conditions uniquely enabled by the OCP Foundation. By providing both financial and programmatic support, the initiative aims to accelerate the development of impactful, community-driven technologies aligned with OCP’s mission.
“The Collaboration Acceleration Fund reinforces our commitment to enabling open innovation at scale,” said George Tchaparian, CEO, OCP Foundation. “By lowering barriers to collaboration and supporting projects that benefit the broader ecosystem, we are ensuring that transformative ideas can move forward in a transparent and inclusive way.”
The Fund operates as a non-equity, pre-competitive grant program, focused on advancing open standards and shared technical assets. All funded outcomes must be contributed back to the OCP Community under approved open licenses, ensuring accessibility and long-term industry benefit.
Through a structured and transparent process, the Foundation will provide:
- Resource matching between 25% and 50%
- Technical and programmatic support
- A neutral platform for collaboration across multiple stakeholders
Advancing Community-Driven Innovation
The Collaboration Acceleration Fund is designed to:
- Support projects that are underfunded due to lack of collaborative environments
- Encourage multi-stakeholder participation to foster partnerships
- Accelerate initiatives aligned with OCP Core Tenets of Openness, Impact, Efficiency, Scale and Sustainability, across the data center and hardware value chain
2026 Priority Areas
The Fund will prioritize proposals addressing key areas of innovation, including:
- AI data centers and scalable AI infrastructure
- Data center power, cooling, and energy efficiency
- Robotics and automation for data center operations
- AI cluster design, networking, and accelerator architectures
- Edge AI systems and distributed computing
- Wireless access technologies and xG radio hardware
- Sustainability, lifecycle management, and carbon reporting
- Supply chain transparency and interoperability
Call for Proposals
The OCP Foundation invites submissions from organizations and collaborative teams across the ecosystem. Proposals must include participation from multiple stakeholders and demonstrate alignment with OCP’s mission of open innovation.
