Oracle International Corporation, Redwood Shores, CA, has been assigned a patent (12323489) developed by Portz; Travis, Larsen; Jeppe, Nanjundappa; Bharath Mysore, Verun; Max, and Tayah; Mario, Seattle, WA, for “system and method for automatic block storage volume tier tuning.“
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “In accordance with an embodiment, described herein are systems and methods for automatic block storage volume tuning by simulating usage characteristics for data/block volumes. The block storage performance associated with usage by a cloud instance of a block volume can be simulated, and the manner in which data is stored or cached, for example within a combination of SSD/NVMe block storage and/or HDD object storage, can be automatically adjusted, for example to associate the block volume with a particular volume performance tier. The described approach allows the system to tune block volume performance in a dynamic manner, without further manual input from a user—the volume performance can be automatically increased when the user needs it, and otherwise reduced down to save costs (both for the user and the cloud provider). A user can enable tuning on a particular block volume, and thereafter automatically receive appropriate price/performance characteristics.”

Data migration using counter hashing
Oracle International Corporation, Redwood Shores, CA, has been assigned a patent (12306790) developed by Dockter; Caleb, Seattle, WA, for a “data migration using counter hashing.“
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “Techniques described herein are directed toward a counter hash generation scheme. One embodiment includes a method for counter hash generation. The method includes a device receiving an instruction to transmit an artifact from a source system to a target system, the artifact comprising a plurality of blocks. The device receives a block from the source system. The device generates an initialization vector based at least in part on the artifact. The device generates a nonce based at least in part on the initialization vector and a block value, each block being assigned a respective block value by a counter. The device generates a combined data instance based at least in part on a combination of the nonce, data of the block, and a length of the block. The device generates a hash of the combined data instance. The device transmits the hash and the block to the target system.”
The patent application was filed on 2022-12-14 (18/081285).
Techniques for replication checkpointing during DR
Oracle International Corporation, Redwood Shores, CA, has been assigned a patent (12306804) developed by Visvanathan; Satish Kumar Kashi, San Jose, CA, Venugopal; Viggnesh, Santa Clara, CA, Golosovker; Victor Vladimir, Union City, CA, and Shamanna; Ravi Lingappa, Milpitas, CA, for “techniques for replication checkpointing during disaster recovery.“
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: “Techniques are described for checkpointing multiple key ranges in parallel and concurrently during file storage replications between file systems in different cloud infrastructure regions. In certain embodiments, multiple range threads processing multiple key ranges, one thread per key range, create checkpoints for their respective key ranges in parallel and concurrently after processing a per-determined number of B-tree keys. In certain embodiments, upon encountering a failure event, either a system crash or a thread failure, each thread restarts its B-tree key processing from a B-tree key after the most recent checkpoint.”
