HPE Zerto Software V.10 Update 7

Includes number of features and improvements to enable organizations to scale protection even further while heightening security to prevent unauthorized access

IT infrastructure, both on-premises and in the cloud, continues to expand, and the threats from cyber criminals continue to evolve.

Hpe Zerto Software Intro2

Secure and scalable disaster recovery (DR) is needed now more than ever. With these areas of focus in mind, the latest update to HPE Zerto Software version 10 includes a number of features and improvements to enable organizations to scale protection even further while heightening security to prevent unauthorized access. These are highlighted updates to HPE Zerto in V.10 update 7.

AWS architecture scale-out
Recent updates to HPE Zerto Software for AWS introduced a new cloud-based virtual replication appliance (VRA) in addition to a new HPE Zerto cloud appliance. Previously, the appliance performed both the roles of management and handling replication, where now replication is handled by the VRA under the appliance management.

With V.10 update 7, Zerto Software for AWS now automatically utilizes multiple VRAs to scale out to support protection of thousands of VMs. Testing has validated scale-out to more than 5,000 VMs in this updated architecture. This architecture provides scalability both in performance and management, as the administration is centralized in a single appliance managing multiple VRAs for scale.

Enhanced protection scale with VMware VAIO
Hewlett Packard Enterprise recently released HPE Zerto support for VMware VAIO to support secure boot for high-security VMware environments. In the initial release, scalability was limited to a fraction of the scale Zerto users are accustomed to. To release the full capabilities, as of the Zerto V.10 update 7 release, the scalability limits have been removed, and protection of 1,000s of VMs is now supported using HPE Zerto with VMware VAIO.

Additionally, Zerto Software will now support VAIO on the Microsoft Azure VMware Service (AVS). As with on-premises Zerto for VMware, this update allows the enhanced security features usable with VAIO to be used on AVS.

Role-based access controls for AWS
With HPE Zerto, VMs can be protected to, from, or within AWS, and the software provides two different management VMs: the Zerto cloud appliance and the Zerto In-Cloud Software for AWS management VM. Within these appliances, user security is managed by Keycloak, and with Zerto V.10 update 7, both of these appliances now support role-based access.

To allow greater security, following principles like least-privileged access, various user roles can be defined within Keycloak, limiting the administrative access of user accounts managing the Zerto appliances. This gives greater control to the security and administration of Zerto Software for AWS.

Enhanced secrets management with HashiCorp Vault integration
HPE Zerto security features include secrets such as user credentials and encryption keys. HashiCorp Vault provides secrets management with enforceable security polices, rotating secrets, and enhanced identity checking. Organizations can use HashiCorp Vault to manage secrets across an enterprise, now including HPE Zerto, to better enforce security best practices, corporate security policies, achieve compliance, and prevent unauthorized access to sensitive recovery data.
