History 2004: Cisco Buys Actona
For $82 million
By Jean Jacques Maleval | May 1, 2024 at 2:00 pmCisco Systems put down $82 million in cash to acquire Actona Technologies , based in Los Gatos, CA with R&D operations in Haifa, Israel.

Formerly VerEdge Technologies, the start-up, founded in 2000, with $23 million in financing to its credit so far, has written software that enables file caching via an appliance for storage centralization, application acceleration and real-time information access over the WAN.
Cisco, which already held a 17% equity stake in the company, may integrate the applications on its blade switches to handle storage files.
Actona’s 48-person team will report to George Kurian, VP and GM of Cisco’s routing technology group.
