History 2004: Broadcom in Disk Array with RAIDCore

By Jean Jacques Maleval | March 1, 2024 at 2:00 pm$1.6 billion Broadcom, provider of silicon solutions, is raising eyebrows at Quantum, for which Tandberg Data distributes competing SOLT drives in Europe, in an agreement dating back to 1998.
Tandberg Storage, formerly Tandberg Technology, is a Tandberg Data spin-off focused on new tape drive technology.
The parent company retains a 20% stake in Tandberg Technology, which in turn owns 93.5% of OMass enabling broadband communications, bought RAIDCore, a Nashua, NH-based start-up company focused on RAID and virtualization software, for $16.5 million.
The initial products resulting from the acquisition will focus on an integrated RAID-on-chip and RAIDon – motherboard based on SAS and SATA interfaces.

Start-up RAIDCore was founded in 2000 and has raised $5 million in funding.
