Asigra Launches SaaSBACKUP

Platform-as-a-service backup application to provide enterprise-grade protection to millions of at-risk SaaS applications

Asigra Inc. announced SaaSBACKUP, a powerful SaaS-based backup platform designed to provide comprehensive backup and recovery capabilities to SaaS applications that include Salesforce, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace and far beyond.

Through API connectivity, SaaSBACKUP is able to support the entire macrocosm of SaaS applications with enterprise data protection that ensures BC.

According to Fortune Business Insights, “The global SaaS market size was valued at $215.10 billion in 2021 and is expected to grow from $251.17 in 2022 to $883.34 billion by 2029, exhibiting a CAGR of 19.7% during the forecast period.”

Because of the surge in SaaS adoption, it has become increasingly important to protect the mission critical data in these applications. However, many business and IT users do not realize that most of these applications offer weak or in many cases, no data protection capabilities or guarantees of data recovery. Depending on the SaaS platform, data recovery may be the sole responsibility of the user. This puts the burden on the user organization to deploy a backup platform capable of providing the required level of protection.

SaaSBACKUP was developed to deliver protection for business users across a wide range of SaaS applications, including apps in the areas of Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Content Management System (CMS), Project Management, sales, marketing, eCommerce solutions, leveraging the platform’s powerful API integration capability.

SaaSBACKUP applications provide the following features:

  • SaaS/Cloud Application Agnostic – It adapts to and protects data in an unlimited number of SaaS environments, ensuring 24x7x365 protection of business data.
  • Fast, Simple Deployment – It provides mass deployment across hundreds or thousands of SaaS application users simultaneously for immediate and consistent protection. New users are automatically detected and included in the backup environment.
  • Granular Recovery – Users can recover data at any level of granularity. This includes recovering a single email or a complete email system. When the lost data is identified, restorations are performed quickly to a user’s account or alternative location.
  • Secure/Compliant Backup – Protect data as often and for as long as required and ensure data is encrypted and defended with strong multi-factor authentication to meet regulatory and compliance mandates.

SaaSBACKUP is a true platform-as-a-service that is turnkey and requires no infrastructure installation. Additionally, all maintenance is updated by Asigra and managed in the cloud. The platform is secure by design, built with integrated security, including Deep MFA (multi-factor authentication) to protect vs. unauthorized acts due to credential theft or user error. The platform features military-grade encryption with FIPS 140-2 certification to protect data.

Developed for MSPs, Asigra partners will have access to a software development kit (SDK). The SDK enables rapid SaaS application connector growth, allowing partners to continually add new SaaS app connectors as needs arise. Regarding the backup repository, MSPs may select their own storage environment, including AWS or any other S3-compatible cloud storage platform. Complementary to traditional on-premise backup solutions, there is no need to rip and replace existing software as the solution is additive, bringing new revenue to partners.

“IT professionals are coming to understand that the protection of SaaS application data throughout an organization is not only a legal obligation but also vital for protecting reputation and finances,” said Eric Simmons, CEO. “The importance of this cannot be overstated and drives our focus on protecting the entire SaaS application spectrum.”

Availability
The beta program for the platform will commence in May, 2023. Managed service providers may register to participate in the program here.

SaaS applications are widely used, no news here, and therefore their proliferation generates a real pain when you speak about data protection.

First, as we already wrote, promoting a SaaS solution without a backup feature is just a scandal, we’re not speaking about PaaS or IaaS but SaaS. People jump into subscription without checking this point or even worse they know the protection is absent but they adopt the solution. Amazing.

The good point is the opportunity it gives to 3rd party vendors who can develop their own product to address this issue.

But again, the industry creates its own complexity, enterprises use bare metal, VM and classic application protection sometimes a Kubernetes one and now at least one for SaaS applications.

Since HYCU launched a few weeks ago its universal solution named R-Cloud, the company serves as a reference, and the market had to react. The first one is Asigra who adopts some similar ideas and also shows differences. The Canadian firm even believed it was the first to announce such approach but realizing HYCU did it first, they dropped the original press release title.

The team develops itself the connectors and glue between Asigra SaaSBACKUP engine and applications to protect. The validation and certification has to be obtained with the SaaS application vendor and could create some latency. It will change in the future with the SDK available to MSP partners. The mapping of SaaS applications for enterprises is achieved via Augmentt Technology, a key partner that offers a discovery tool.

There is no marketplace as of today and the price is not yet public but Eric Simmons told us that the team will use a revenue sharing model. Another good point is the flexibility of storage location, of course any S3 compatible, both from public clouds but also from private such ones present and offered by MSPs.

The product will be GA in 3Q23 for USA and MSPs, in Europe and UK in 4Q23 plus VAR and VAD and in 2024 for the rest of the planet.

Asigra was founded in 1986 and led by the Farajun family, now present at the board of directors. The company is driven by a new executive team arrived early 2002 composed by Eric Simmons, CEO, Val Silva, CTO, Pete Nourse, CRO/CMO, and Chris Gilkes, VP WW sales. The company, seen as a pioneer with strong reputation, has a real visibility challenge. The firm is profitable and counts around 100 employees.
