History (1997): Quantum Reduces Price of SSDs
Entry level system drops from $10,500 to $7,500 or $56/MB.
By Jean Jacques Maleval | October 19, 2021 at 2:01 pmQuantum reduced the price of its solid state disks ESP 3000 and 5000 by 10 to 40%, reflecting the drop in DRAM pricing.
The electronic memories range from 134 to 804MB in a 3.5-inch form factor, and up to 950MB in 5.25-inch.
An entry level system thus drops from $10,500 to $7,500, a price per megabyte of $56.
Note that Amdahl recently integrated Quantum’s solid state technology into its Logical Volume Series (LVS) storage systems.
