IBM TS1160 Tape Drive Model 60S at Native 20TB

IBM TS1160 Tape Drive Model 60S for IBM TS4500 delivers 20TB native capacity with a dual-port 12Gb SAS interface to simplify storage management

IBM TS1160 SAS Tape Drive, 3592-60S, is designed to deliver 20TB native capacity and a native data rate of 400Mb/s (900Mb/s compressed) when using JE media.

It is supported in TS4500 tape libraries and includes a dual-port 12Gb SAS interface suitable for businesses with substantial storage, backup, and archiving demands.

TS1160 tape drives are able to read and write 20TB capacities on JE media. They can also read and write JD media in both the TS1155 (15TB capacity) and TS1150 formats (10TB capacity), read and write JC media in TS1150 format (7TB capacity), and read only JC media (4TB capacity) in TS1140 format.

Media written in TS1160 format is not readable by TS1155 or TS1150, but is back-portable for reformatting the TS1155 format of 15TB.

TS1160 is not currently supported by IBM TS7700 environments.

It also supports drive-based data encryption to help protect data. Its based encryption and associated IBM Security Key Lifecycle Manager components are supported in a range of environments, including select IBM Power Systems, IBM System i, and other servers running AIX, Linux, Oracle Solaris, and Windows OSs.

Key requirements
TS1160 Tape Drive Model 60S is supported in environments including select IBM Power Systems and Intel-based other servers running Linux and Windows OS environments.

September 4, 2020: Model 60S and all features, except feature number AGKA
November 6, 2020: Feature number AGKA
