History (1990): Control Data to Market StoragTek ACS 4400 Tape Library

Control Data Corp. will distribute the StorageTek ACS 4400 library under the Model 5744 name.

Likewise, it will market StorageTek’s 4480 drives for 3480 cartridges and will name them 5680.

The agreement between the two companies covers close to $50 million on a four-year period.

At CDC, the basic price of the library (with a single drive) starts at $495,000 and $100,000 for a drive.

The American computer manufacturer has adopted this peripheral to connect it to its Cyber mainframe range under NOSNE. Early next year, support will be added for CDC’s Unix-based Model 4000 departmental computers.
