Italian Start-Up StorEasy in Cloud Storage Services

The Italian start-up StorEasy, based in Empoli and Milano, Italy, is launching next gen cloud storage services for the enterprise market.

The cloud is today’s big digital transformation platform, but current cloud storage methods are antiquated, complex and costly. StorEasy is doing away with the old data archiving and storage SaaS service models – difficult to implement, and requiring proprietary APIs that represent technological and commercial lock-ins.

It protects customers’ information over time and without constraints, archiving data in its native format. The service integrates seamlessly without making changes to the applications or the way users work by virtually extending the client’s LAN to the cloud, at the same time maintaining all the cloud’s prerogatives.

Among the interesting aspects is the transparent and automatic migration of data from on-premise infrastructure to the StorEasy Cloud. This allows to automatically migrate and archive files on existing infrastructure to the secure cloud using a combination of attributes such as creation date, edit date, last access, file owner, file size and file extension. Files migrated through this service continue to appear locally, even when they are only present in the firm’s cloud. Whenever an application or a user requests a file migrated and archived in this cloud, it appears in real time in its original position. The company does not charge any data download fees as some public clouds like AWS and Azure do, with unpredictable costs for customers.

It offers companies a data protection and archiving services, such as native on-premise integration with Cohesity, Rubrik, NetApp and Hitachi HCP to deliver short and long-term data retention services.

Massive Data Migration
StorEasy has also developed ways to migrate massive volumes of data to the cloud rapidly ‘Tape as NAS’ technology that uses a hybrid cloud gateway with a tape library or stand-alone LTO/LTFS tape installed on-premise.

The LTFS Cloud Gateway allows clients to copy/migrate their data quickly from on-premise infrastructure to the company’s cloud through LTO/LTFS media. The data is physically transferred to the cloud and then aligned with the on-premise infrastructure much more quickly than by traditional migration.

StorEasy guarantees its availability online within 24 hours of reception at its data centres. From an operating standpoint, the Tape as NAS appears as a normal Windows directory or Linux mount point, depending on the client’s needs or OS.

In addition to the standard archiving model it offers a WORM option that archives data in non-rewritable, non-erasable format. With this technique, recorded data can no longer be overwritten, modified and/or manipulated. This WORM protection process complies with the strict national and international regulations covering sensitive data archiving, document management, electronic record storage and log file archiving.
