1961: IBM Stretch Storage Subsystem
First fault tolerant storage subsystem, 40 bit parallel transfer, used 7 bit error correcting code (ECC) to correct failures.
This type of fault tolerance is later called RAID-2.
The IBM Stretch Storage Subsystem consisted of the IBM 7612 Disk Synchronizer, 354 Disk Control Unit and 353 Disk File.
