Evaluator Group and Iomark Tested IBM FlashSystem V9000

Highest results with 1,600 VMs and 4,096 virtual desktops

IOmark and Evaluator Group, Inc. announce benchmark results for IBM Corp.‘ FlashSystem V9000 for both IOmark-VM and IOmark-VDI, achieving 1,600 IOmark-VM’s and 4,096 IOmark-VDI instances.

IOmark-VM is a benchmark that certifies storage systems for virtual server results, while IOmark-VDI is a benchmark for virtual desktop workloads. The measurement criteria for both are storage performance, with all storage workloads running on the tested storage system. The gating item for most workloads is the storage system performance. IOmark measures and reports application specific storage workloads and the price per VM or VDI instance.

The application mix for IOmark-VM, the VM application server benchmark includes databases, web servers and Exchange mail servers plus hyper-visor operations consisting of a VM clone, deploy, boot, software upgrade, and storage migration between storage volumes.

The application mix for IOmark-VDI consists of standard windows desktop applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Internet Explorer, Windows Media player and other applications.

IOmark-VM benchmark requires following to achieve passing results:

  • Total test time is one hour, with a measured interval of 30 minutes

  • 70% of response times for I/O’s must not exceed 20ms

  • A minimum number of storage vMotion and VM clone operations must also be completed during a one hour test

IOmark-VDI benchmark requires following to achieve passing results:

  • Total test time is one hour, with a measured interval of 30 minutes

  • 70% of response times for I/O’s must not exceed 30ms

Evaluator Group is the developer of IOmark, which is available without charge to Evaluator Group IT end user premium subscribers. Vendors, performance testing labs and channel partners may purchase to use the tool in their lab and for publishing audited results. IT end users may purchase a discounted license. An evaluation license may be obtained for 30 days for internal trials.
