With Avere, RVX created dazzling special effects for the anticipated film Everest.

The Everest commission from Universal Studios was a major win for RVX. The IMAX 3D format meant that rendering each frame required the movement and manipulation. RVX CTO Rui Gomes chose  FXT Edge filers as offering the best value to decrease storage latency and increase overall productivity.

The solution enables the studio to tackle large-scale projects and challenge much bigger competitors. The increased visibility offered by the FXT management console allows the studio to manage data transfer costs. Together these benefits create an irresistible ROI and provide the ability to scale up and conquer projects such as the Everest challenge.

The scale of the Everest challenge would have been daunting without Avere’s help. The project required the creation of a convincing, fully rendered, 3D model of the mountain by combining photographic images of Everest with footage from the movie.

Gomes said: “Almost everything that goes to the data center passes through the Avere cluster and that enables me to get a good estimate of how much bandwidth we are actually using. I can plan usage for future projects.

As movie production effects continue to advance, the IT infrastructure has to keep pace, otherwise deadlines are missed and creatively of the artists is affected,” said Ron Bianchini, president and CEO, Avere. “Avere is pleased to have supported RVX in reaching new heights in visual effects.
