XIV Storage System Gen3 Supporting IBM Spectrum Accelerate Software Licenses

IBM XIV Storage System Gen3 now includes support for using Spectrum Accelerate software licenses with XIV Storage System Gen3 hardware.

This new offering is a choice for large ELA customers as it combines the management of all software licenses for deployments that are built with Spectrum Accelerate under one ELA, including those for XIV Storage System Gen3.

In order to deliver this offering, a new software PID 5639-YYF has been created, IBM XIV Hardware Integration license for Spectrum Accelerate, which should be ordered instead of the existing XIV Gen3 software PIDs (5639-YYB or 5639-YYC). There is also a corresponding feature code for XIV Gen3 hardware (0020); Hardware integration license for Spectrum Accelerate.

This offering provides a new way to meet the growing storage needs of large enterprise customer by standardizing on Spectrum Accelerate licensing for proven enterprise capabilities, delivering the following benefits:

• Consolidation of storage software procurement (leverage ELA)
• Purchase software licenses independently from the underlying hardware
• Allocate available budget with maximal operational flexibility
• Align software subscription and support yearly renewal with greater management and control
• Seamless repurposing of Spectrum Accelerate software licenses with more flexible and agile deployment options for IBM XIV Gen3 and cusomer-choice hardware
• Own your own storge software by decoupling perpetual software licenses from the underlying storage system hardware for future investment protection

This offering only applies to new XIV Storage System Gen3 Model 214 purchases.

As a prerequisite to any order of this offering, the customer must have pre-purchased and unassigned perpetual Spectrum Accelerate licenses.
