HDS and Oper8 Launching Australian Public Cloud Storage Service

Locally hosted and based on Hitachi content platform

Hitachi Data Systems Corporation and Brisbane based, Australian-owned and operated IT services provider Oper8 Pty Ltd, launched the Oper8 National Digital Archive, a locally hosted, public cloud storage service underpinned by the Hitachi Content Platform.

The company has joined hands with HDS aiming at supporting its portfolio of Australian cloud services with a cloud infrastructure which addresses the data security, availability and compliance requirements, with data guaranteed to be stored in Australia.

The Hitachi content management solution, initially housed in the Polaris tier 3 data centre allows the business to store, protect, preserve and retrieve unstructured data with a single storage platform. Its core features Hitachi Content Platform, a multipurpose object storage system with capacity to support large-scale repositories of unstructured data.

Mark Owen, Oper8 COO, said: “We chose HDS to build the storage and content management infrastructure of the National Digital Archive. This has enabled us to launch a true cloud service for value added services such as document management, workflow capabilities, backup as a service, and archive, all built on the Hitachi content cloud. Companies from a range of industries such as legal, finance and health can use this service to archive, store and distribute digital content across multiple, geographically dispersed sites and branches.

Owen adds: “Normally backup windows are large. With an Oper8 Edge NAS cache connected to the National Digital Archive we can backup large, unstructured data sets of more than 30TB per day for our clients. The bottomless NAS capabilities delivered by the Oper8 Edge NAS cache are extremely powerful for storage redundancy, backup and archive, even for the most mission critical data such as CCTV footage and financial records.
