PoINT Storage Manager 4.0 Facilitates Data Migration

The current release of the software product PoINT Storage Manager from PoINT Software & Systems GmbH facilitates data migration to other storage systems.

Obsolete storage technologies can be substituted by new technologies respectively additional storage systems based on alternative technologies can be integrated. Data migration carried out by PoINT Storage Manager is transparent and withou interruption of running operations. There is no need for adaptations of the applications or of existing workflows.

Due to the data growth, tighter compliance requirements and faster technology updates data migration to new storage technologies is essential. A migration is also necessary in case of changing the hardware manufacturer e.g. as a result of expiring support contracts. The challenges are versatile. The main problem is to move the data to new storage systems without any loss and without any impact on the workflows. Furthermore the most suitable technology should be applied.

PoINT Storage Manager solves these problems reliably. The basis is first of all the integrated Tiered Storage Architecture. Data is moved to the appropriate tier according to its usage: active data to the Performance Tier, inactive data to the Capacity Tier and data to be archived to the Archive Tier. Technologies with the best specific properties are applied. Users can choose a certain storage technology of their trusted manufacturer. The company collaborates with numerous hardware manufacturer, thus PoINT Storage Manager is able to support new technologies already at an early stage.

In case a data migration is necessary in the course of changing or extending a storage system the migration process is transparent and carried out in background without disrupting the business operation.
