Unitrends Delivers Free Backup and Recovery Solution

Unitrends, Inc. announced the availability of its Enterprise Backup Free Edition for the unlicensed (free) version of vSphere Hypervisor.

With this addition to its product portfolio, Unitrends is the only data protection provider to offer a free, automated, functioning backup and recovery solution for both the licensed and unlicensed versions of vSphere Hypervisor. This solution also enables VMware to compete with Microsoft in the SMB market.
 
Enterprise Backup, the company’s software-only backup and recovery virtual appliance, has supported vSphere since its launch in June 2012. Now, the solution offers free backup and recovery functionality for the unlicensed version of vSphere Hypervisor. While virtualization-focused backup vendors have struggled with the licensing restrictions on VMware’s vStorage APIs for Data Protection (VADP), Unitrends is able to provide support for the unlicensed version of vSphere Hypervisor as a result of its Unified Data Protection architecture.

This scalable architecture provides unified host- and guest-level data protection for both virtual and physical environments. The result is an enterprise data protection solution that provides backup and recovery, archiving, replication and virtualization failover functionality at no cost.

Unitrends debuted its Enterprise Backup Free Edition for the unlicensed version of vSphere Hypervisor at VMworld 2013 San Francisco, CA.
