Druva Delivers Cloud-Scalable Backup/File Sharing to Data Centers

With OpenStack-based inSync deployment option

Druva, Inc. announced a deployment option for its inSync endpoint data protection platform that is designed to help large enterprises solve the scalability challenges of backup and file sharing across hundreds of thousands of users without moving to a public cloud.

Built on the OpenStack open source cloud computing platform, the new option allows inSync to be deployed in a private cloud environment utilizing OpenStack Swift object storage to achieve an out-of-the-box scaleout architecture without the server expense or management overhead of block storage.

OpenStack’s object storage allows enterprises to deploy inSync on commodity hardware, easily scale storage both vertically and horizontally, and automatically write files to multiple disk drives as well as replicate them to new locations in the cluster for HA and faster DR in the event of a server or HDD failure. Druva is the first endpoint backup and IT-managed file sharing provider to offer these capabilities.

"Backup and file sharing account for the lion’s share of storage needs and continue to grow at a rapid pace. The problem is that on-premise storage has not kept pace with public cloud architectures for cost, scale and availability. That has left enterprises that need to host their IT infrastructure behind the firewall for security and compliance purposes using older storage strategies that are both inefficient and expensive," said Jaspreet Singh, CEO, Druva. "By bringing the scalability of the public cloud to an on-premise environment, our new OpenStack object storage option clears the way for better, easier and more affordable storage management within an organization’s four walls."

inSync provides a four-in-one endpoint data management strategy that protects corporate information assets against the risks of mobile computing and the widespread use of consumer-grade file sharing while also providing secure remote file access and a complete audit trail of all file sharing activity for governance purposes.

The inSync platform integrates:

  • Automated backup of desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets
  • Secure file sharing  with enterprise security and policy enforcement
  • Data loss prevention with data encryption, device geo-tracking and remote data delete
  • Reporting and global search with centralized visibility of all content and file exchange

Unifying all these functions enables consolidated endpoint policy management across all devices and users, global deduplication across backup and file sharing, a single client experience across all endpoint data for end users, and an audit trail of data both at rest and in motion.

A Ponemon Institute study calculated that this unified strategy can save enterprises more than $8,100 (£5,100) per user every year by eliminating point solutions, reducing storage and bandwidth requirements, increasing end user productivity, and avoiding data loss with associated remediation costs.

inSync can also be deployed in on-premise, public cloud and proprietary private cloud deployment scenarios.
