IBM S3700 200/400/800GB 2.5-Inch and 200/400GB 1.8-Inch SSDs
From Intel and for System x and BladeCenter
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on July 16, 2013 at 2:59 pmThe IBM S3700
SSDs employ MLC NAND with High Endurance Technology to bring an affordable
solution with fast read and write performance for applications requiring
enterprise workloads with a R/W mix.

The new SSD drives are available as 1.8-inch and
2.5-inch options.
These SSDs deliver performance with 4KB random
read performance of up to 75,000 IO/s and 4KB random write performance of up
to 36,000 IO/s, with low latencies of less than 500μs for 99.9% of the time,
ensuring quick and consistent command response times. This performance is
delivered with low active power consumption that helps reduce overall energy
costs.
These S3700 SSDs are covered under IBM warranty.
These drives carry a 1-year limited warranty, or when installed in a System x
server, they assume the system’s base warranty. SSDs do have finite write or
program/erase (P/E) cycles, which are listed as TBW.

MLC SATA SSDs for IBM
System x:
- High capacities in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch
industry-standard form factor - Cost-effective 25nm MLC NAND technology
- Performance to withstand applications with
mixed-use R/W workloads - Endurance Technology for delivering SLC endurance
similar to that of SSDs in a multilevel cell SSD package to achieve 10 drive
writes per day for five years - Power-safe write cache, which ensures that user
data in transit is committed to flash in the event of a power failure - Enhanced power-loss data protection, which reduces
potential data loss by detecting and protecting data from an unexpected system
power loss - End-to-end data path protection using an error
correction scheme, which ensures data integrity by protecting against possible
data corruption in the NAND, SRAM, and DRAM memory - System reliability
- Temperature sensor to ensure that the drive does
not overheat and operate out of spec - Absence of moving parts, which reduces potential
failure points in the server
