In his never-ending spring cleaning, Google announced in a blog
post
that the storage capacity of it’s photography service, Picasa, will
be merged with the storage capacity of it’s Drive service.

The recently rebranded Drive service (formerly Google Doc) is going
to share 5GB of space with Picasa. In it’s current form, Drive
users are getting 5GB of free storage space while Picasa is provided
with 1GB of free space. After the merging both of the services are
going to share a total of 5GB. All the storage space will be
combined into the same account.
The paid users however will be seeing some change: For the
moment the paid storage space is added up to the already free
storage. If you purchase 100GB of space for Drive your total space is
going to be 105GB: the free 5GB and the paid 100GB ones.
With the new scheme if you buy 25GB of additional space your total
will not be 30GB but 25GB. Your free storage space will now be
counted towards your total.
The storage system is said to be
rolling out "over the next few month" and "will
make the approach much easier for users". However other services like
Gmail are not affected by these changes.
