VeloBit Unveils Free Starter Edition of HyperCache

VeloBit, Inc. introduced a free edition of HyperCache, the software that accelerates and boosts server capacity for a variety of I/O-bound applications, including databases and virtualized environments.

HyperCache Starter edition supports unlimited amounts of primary storage, up to 32GB cache on SSD, and up to 4GB cache in RAM, which is typically sufficient to accelerate a database of up to 160GB. Access to community support forums is also provided.

"The introduction of VeloBit HyperCache Starter edition allows a broader range of customers to benefit from the fastest SSD caching in the industry," said Duncan McCallum, co-founder and CEO of VeloBit. "The free edition of VeloBit gives customers tremendous ROI, and we expect it to dramatically accelerate our growth."

According to a report by Demartek, an independent benchmarker of IT infrastructure, HyperCache performance was "the highest that we have seen" in the industry. The report found that it accelerated database speed by 800% in a standard TPCC test and was 4 times faster than the alternative SSD caching solution.

VeloBit utilizes a low-cost download for software distribution. As a result, it has hundreds of installations and customers on five continents.

"Implementing SSDs as tier-0 primary storage disrupts system availability and is very costly, which hampers SSD adoption," said Henry Baltazar, senior analyst for The 451 Group. "In the long run, we see using SSDs as a cache as more cost-effective than using them as a storage tier. A free version of SSD caching will provide enough of an incentive for customers to try the software. We expect that the freemium VeloBit version will disrupt the SSD caching market and will accelerate SSD adoption in the enterprise."

HyperCache’s installs and configures in 60 seconds without requiring an application or system reboot.
