For email storage

Libero Srl, Italy’s popular
portal, ISP and email provider, has selected storage at scale pioneer Scality‘s RING Organic Storage platform to
solve its email storage needs and underpin future cloud storage offerings.
Libero forecasts data growth over the coming years, and will integrate
Scality’s scalable and storage with its Path email platform on Dell
servers.
Scality’s object storage-based, hardware independent architecture
will enable Libero to scale and manage its email platform more efficiently,
while reducing TCO. Libero’s customers
will benefit from increased email storage capacity on a faster and more
reliable storage infrastructure than the legacy system.
Scality replaces a large proportion of Libero’s incumbent email
storage infrastructure from major players. Part of the petabyte level deal also
includes an option to use the RING for future Storage-as-a-Service offerings within the framework of Libero’s cloud strategy.
"Libero is committed to
supplying fast and reliable email access for our 8 million users,"
said Antonio Converti, CEO of Libero. "In
order to ensure that our IT systems provide the best performance today and into
the future, the storage infrastructure must support the fastest and most
reliable service delivery and grow with our users’ needs."
Key benefits for Libero include:
Scalability: Users keep storing larger attachments, for longer and longer.
Libero needs a scalable storage platform that can handle multiple petabytes of
emails.
Performance: Scality ensures fast speed access of files regardless of how big the email store gets.
Benefiting from Cloud economics:
Libero’s competitors benefit from cloud economics, and so must Libero. With its
self-healing, and organic features, RING Organic offers long-term
costs that are refreshingly low per TB and decrease with scale.
Hardware independence:
Opting for Scality’s hardware independent approach means that Libero can use
whatever commodity hardware platforms they want.
Pay software license only once:
After 3 to 5 years, hardware becomes obsolete, and disk drives are 3 to 5 times
larger. With RING Organic, it is easy to switch out obsolete hardware
for new one, without any manual migration or reconfiguration, and without
having to pay a new software license.
No more manual volume management:
Scality’s object-based storage does not require any volume management, saving time for application and storages system administrators.
"Libero has recognized that email
storage success requires an experienced and specialized approach. The Scality
RING is the most suitable backend storage for any large-scale email application
in the market today. The RING is of course very capable of handling other cloud
based services, but email storage requires high IOPS and needs to be very
flexible. It is the only product in the market capable of delivering the
performance, the functionality and the economics of the cloud for large scale
email platforms," said Jérôme Lecat, CEO of Scality.
He
added: "The killer challenge that every
service provider is facing today is how to benefit from cloud economics
although they might not be as big as the largest players in the market, and at
the same time deliver the quality of service their specific market expects.
This is a task we are helping our customers overcome every day. It is a
challenge, but it is not an impossible one."
