AppAssure Software 5x Faster Than Acronis

A new lab report released by OpenBench Labs, an independent technology testing and consulting firm, found that AppAssure Software surpassed Acronis, Inc. in speed, storage utilization and functionality.

In a series of disk-to-disk backup and recovery tests, OpenBench Labs compared AppAssure v4.7 Backup, Replication & Recovery Software with Acronis Backup & Recovery 11. Results from the comparison showed that AppAssure ran 5x faster than Acronis on full and incremental backups with data deduplication and verification. Also, Acronis backup files were typically 100x larger before data deduplication and Acronis agents imposed 4x more overhead on CPU during backups.

Customers choose AppAssure over Acronis for backing up virtual and physical IT environments. "We tested several different backup systems to find out which provided us the fastest backups, the easiest recovery and the best utilization of backup resources," said John Grimes, System Administrator for EFG Companies, an automotive retail services company. He chose AppAssure over Acronis to backup his virtual and physical servers while undergoing a complete conversion to virtualization and noted: "AppAssure nailed all three for us."

Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 did not recover any application-level data from standard full or incremental backups. To recover application-level data, OpenBench Labs was required to create a special backup with separate Acronis backup software for each application.
