The EDGE Boost SATA II (3Gb/s) and the EDGE Boost Pro 6Gb/s SSDs, both feature the reliable SandForce controllers and are available with a line of upgrade kits for installation in notebook, desktop, and server applications.
With capacities ranging from 40GB to 480GB, the EDGE Boost SSD product line offers a solution for a range of users, from consumers to enterprise level corporations. Boost SSDs are designed to be a direct replacement for traditional spinning disk hard drives. The result is a faster, lighter, and more reliable storage solution. Through research and development, EDGE engineers also designed an installation bracket for desktop and server applications. This custom bracket effectively converts standard 2.5 inch SSDs to a 3.5-inch form factor and is patent pending.
"SandForce Inc. is a known innovator of SSD controllers", says Simon Crossley, EDGE VP of Sales. "As a SandForce Driven partner, we are extremely excited to offer our customers an SSD product line with unsurpassed reliability and performance, and power efficiency that differentiate SandForce-based SSDs from other SSD products."
The SandForce controllers come standard with tools such as Full Disk Encryption (FDE) TRIM, S.M.A.R.T., Garbage Collection, wear leveling, and ECC to promote stability and reliability. SandForce-exclusive functions – Durawrite and RAISE – further enhance data efficiency and increase the lifespan of EDGE Boost SSDs.
EDGE Boost SSD Features
- Speed Performance: EDGE Boost SATA II (3Gb/s): 285MB/s (read) and 275MB/s (write). Max IOPS 50,000. EDGE Boost Pro 6Gb/s (SATA III): 550MB/s (read) / 515MB/s (write). Max IOPS 85,000.
- Durability: No moving parts – more durable and reliable than traditional hard drives that use a spinning disk
- Less Power Consumption: Typically provides up to 13% longer battery life, is more energy efficient, and runs cooler than a traditional hard drive
- Secure: FDE secures 100% of data when enabled. EDGE Boost SATA II (3Gb/s): 128-bit AES hardware encryption. EDGE Boost Pro 6Gb/s: 256-bit AES hardware encryption
- Dependable: SandForce Driven – Utilizes the SandForce SF-1222 controller (EDGE Boost) and the SF-2281 (EDGE Boost Pro) for performance and reliability.
The adoption of solid state drives is growing rapidly all over the world and the reason why is clear: SSDs provide greater return on investment than traditional HDDs. While the cost of SSDs is higher than traditional hard drives, the decision to upgrade is a simple business equation: More performance + lower operating costs + lower power consumption = greater ROI and lower TCO.
Utilizing the SandForce SF-1222 controller, the EDGE Boost SATA II 3Gb/s SSD can achieve read and write speeds of 285MB/s and 275 MB/s respectively. In comparison to hard drives, SSDs can cut system boot times by 50%. Fast read/write speeds, coupled with a 50,000 max IOPS rating, provide fantastic performance gains in common tasks such as file transfers and loading software applications.
The EDGE Boost Pro 6Gb/s SSD, utilizing the SandForce SF-2281 controller, is the product for power users and server environments, offering fast sequential read/write speeds of 550MB/s (read) / 515MB/s (write), plus an IOPS rating of 85,000. Boost Pro SSDs also generate less heat, run silently, and use less power than traditional HDDs. Today’s powerful servers combined with the adoption of consolidation and virtualization technologies, require more applications to simultaneously read/write data. With its speed and performance benefits, the EDGE Boost Pro 6Gb/s is equipped to handle higher performance requirements, eliminate bottlenecks, and help decrease operating costs.
The EDGE Boost SSD SATA II (3Gb/s) is available in 40GB, 60GB, 80GB, 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB capacities. The EDGE Boost Pro SSD 6Gb/s will be available on August 8, 2011 in 60GB, 120GB, and 240GB, 480GB capacities.
