ExaGrid Expands Support for Veeam Backup and Replication
Source-side de-dupe in concert with D2D backup system with zone de-dupe
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on March 3, 2011 at 3:26 pmExaGrid Systems, Inc. announced expanded backup application support for Veeam Backup & Replication.
Customers can now use Veeam Backup’s built-in source-side deduplication in concert with ExaGrid’s disk-based backup system with Zone Deduplication to further shrink backups with performance.
The combination of ExaGrid’s and Veeam’s VMware data protection solutions allows customers to utilize Veeam Backup & Replication in VMware virtual environments on ExaGrid’s disk-based backup system for backups and efficient data storage as well as ExaGrid replication to an offsite location for disaster recovery. With the latest enhancement, ExaGrid now provides support for Veeam Backup & Replication v5, including its features such as Instant VM Recovery, U-AIR (Universal Application-Item Recovery) and SureBackup Recovery Verification. Veeam customers can now recover an entire virtual machine (VM), individual application objects and individual files from the same fully tested image-based backup.
"ExaGrid’s leading technology and unique architecture maintains intact copies of the most recent Veeam backups, ensuring optimal performance for customers," said Marc Crespi, vice president, product management at ExaGrid. "Virtually all other deduplication products have limited functionality and only have deduplicated copies, which means they can’t support features or offer performance. With ExaGrid, customers are getting leading-edge Zone Deduplication to ensure their data is backed up efficiently and effectively each time."
Veeam provides virtualization management and data protection solutions. Veeam Backup & Replication combines backup and disaster recovery in one solution to improve service levels and reduce costs.
"Through ExaGrid’s expanded support of Veeam Backup & Replication, customers now have support for replication of backups to offsite storage for disaster recovery purposes without sacrificing performance of critical backup and recovery features," said Doug Hazelman, senior director of product strategy at Veeam. "By combining the power and performance of Veeam-based VMware virtual machine backups and the ExaGrid appliance, an even broader range of our customers can now achieve backup and disaster recovery goals quickly and easily."
ExaGrid disk backup systems are designed to meet the needs of companies backing up between 1TB and 100TBs of data. ExaGrid’s approach to disk-based backup delivers unparalleled performance and scalability without requiring costly forklift upgrades as data grows. ExaGrid customers achieve fast backup times because data is written directly to disk and data deduplication is performed post-process after the data is stored. In addition, ExaGrid’s GRID scalability enables organizations to store up to a 100TB full backup plus retention. Performance scales with data growth since processing power, memory, and bandwidth are added along with storage capacity, and data loads are automatically balanced across all servers. ExaGrid’s disk backup system with data deduplication also supports the industry’s leading backup applications and utilities.
On Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 4:00p.m. EST, ExaGrid and Veeam will present a live eSeminar aimed at teaching businesses how to reduce costs and increase service levels through virtualized data protection. Industry experts Marc Crespi, vice president, product management at ExaGrid; Doug Hazelman, senior director of product strategy at Veeam; and Michael Krieger, market expert at Ziff Davis Enterprise will discuss solutions from Veeam and ExaGrid that create fast backups and restores and help achieve better storage utilization and scalability.
