OEM Partnership Between i365 and Pancetera

EVault cloud-connected data protection solutions will embed Unite virtual appliance.

Addressing the challenges VMware administrators face in managing and storing data in virtual environments, Pancetera, a developer of technology for accelerating virtual storage I/O, announced a partnership with i365, A Seagate company, that will help IT managers cut virtual machine (VM) backup time from hours to minutes and reductions of data transfer between 50-80 percent.

Under the terms of the agreement, i365’s EVault Cloud-Connected data protection solutions will embed Pancetera’s Unite virtual appliance with SmartRead  technology. This combination will provide an ‘industry first’ for VMware customers – a single virtual appliance to cost-effectively backup VMs onsite, across the WAN and into the cloud.

VM backup is a challenge for most organizations, primarily due to the sheer size of the VMs. The ability to reduce data I/O is critical in virtual environments where a complete snapshot of all the data can require multiple terabytes of data to be backed up every time, creating performance bottlenecks that impact business productivity.

Today’s available options to move VMs to the cloud for disaster recovery purposes have caused a burden on the network infrastructure – making it difficult and expensive to effectively scale. i365 selected Pancetera’s technology solution to help solve these challenges. The combined solution reduces the complexity and cost associated with backing up and managing virtual data. VMware administrators can achieve full image backup across the WAN with file recovery from the cloud. Additionally, the combined solution manages and optimizes all backup and recovery and requires no staged backups or agents in the VM, allowing customers to save money as there is no need to deploy proxy storage.

"i365 has delivered professional-grade data protection to more than 30,000 small and mid-size businesses and remote branch offices for over a decade and Pancetera is committed to helping organizations manage the challenges associated with virtual machine backup," said Henrik Rosendahl, CEO at Pancetera. "There is a natural synergy between Pancetera’s virtual storage solution and i365’s EVault data protection products. The combined solution will allow VMware administrators to easily and cost-effectively perform VM backup on premise or across the WAN and into the cloud, resulting in superior performance."

"We selected Pancetera because they are the expert when it comes to reducing the overhead associated with VM backup in virtual environments," said David Allen, CTO, i365. "Our combined technologies will significantly simplify backup installation and configuration, speed up the VM backup process and alleviate bandwidth demands – allowing our customers to run backups anytime without impacting the performance of production systems."

Pancetera’s product, Pancetera Unite, eliminates storage virtualization management challenges while allowing IT managers to continue to use the enterprise solutions they already have. Pancetera’s SmartRead  technology dramatically reduces the storage and network I/O, leading to efficient utilization of existing enterprise infrastructure and allowing for higher VM density per server.
