The initial limited run of Triplicators was offered to early adopters at a discounted price through three of Glyph’s key resellers: Tekserve, Sweetwater, and Melrose Mac. The next round of Triplicators will begin shipping late November, and will be available through all of Glyph’s resellers for $399 MAP.
Triplicator is an appliance designed to make multiple, simultaneous copies of a data set. It allows for connecting two or three target hard drives via eSATA device ports and then connecting to a host computer via FireWire 800, USB or eSATA. Power on the drives and the Triplicator and an LED tells you how many drives are attached. Copy the data to the multiple target drives which the Triplicator presents as one drive. When the copy is finished, identical data will be present on the target drives, without the user having to do separate copies. The drives are ready to be used as individual originals for editing, backup and archiving.
"Copying to multiple drives is a time consuming process that we’re always looking to safely accelerate", says Jason Diamond, of MBS Productions in New York City, who uses his Triplicator in a RED Camera and Digital Lab workflow. "Transfer speeds are as you would expect from a single drive, but the bonus is you’re copying to three drives instead of one. The new 2nd generation Triplicator will be a great addition to any data centric workflow and I know it will save us quite a bit of time on set."
The 2nd generation version will feature the ability to mount existing drive sets after the unit has been repowered, a requested feature. Additionally, the ‘Initialize Drives’ button will move to the front panel for easier access when the unit is rack-mounted.
Triplicator was on display at the AES Show, San Francisco, with Vintage King Audio and with Tac System, Inc.
