DSI’s new DSI9303-D and DSI9983-S96 provide integrated data de-duplication to eliminate the redundant data generated by backup processes. De-duplication rates of 10 to 1 reduce the storage footprint by 90 percent or more. This allows companies to keep weeks or even months worth of data on disk for fast, dependable restore, without any of the reliability concerns of tape-based restore.
The DSI9303-D virtual tape and data de-duplication consolidates the management of backup resources while enhancing reliability and accelerating recovery. The DSI9303-D makes industry standard high speed disks appear as virtual tape drives and libraries to backup servers attached to an iSCSI/IP or Fibre Channel (FC) storage area network (SAN). No changes are made to the existing backup software, thereby preserving backup policies and IT staff’s operating knowledge.
The DSI9983-S96 Enterprise Edition supports both one-to-one and many-to-one replication configurations to enable tape infrastructure consolidation at a centralized data site. With standalone DSI9303-D remote office / branch office all-in-one servers deployed at each site, virtual tapes in remote locations can be replicated via WAN to the data center, where the DSI9983-S96 Enterprise Edition aggregates the data into a clustered repository of globally unique data. Then, data from remote sites can be exported to physical tape at the central site as needed, allowing tape to be entirely eliminated at remote sites.
“How effectively companies manage backup of important data assets is critical to business success,” said Chris Johnson, vice president of storage solutions for DSI. “This new series of products that include data de-duplication seamlessly integrates with existing backup applications and presents no performance impact when retrieving backup data. When coupled with high-performance disk arrays, both the backup speeds and the data recovery processes are significantly accelerated, thereby reducing overall data protection costs.”
In addition, DSI has partnered with FalconStor Software, the provider of TOTALLY Open data protection solutions, to bring to market these new VTL and data de-duplication storage solutions.
“We are pleased to partner with DSI as they continue to optimize their product line using FalconStor technology to bring new VTL and data de-duplication solutions to their customers,” said Bernie Wu, vice president of business development for FalconStor Software. “Not only does de-duplication introduce greater efficiency into the data center, it makes WAN-based replication a practical solution for disaster recovery; by streamlining IT operations, DSI’s new VTL with de-duplication products reduce environmental factors and floor space requirements, leading to a greener approach with lower environmental impact.”
De-duplication can be performed concurrently with the backup or after the backup completes, to optimize storage efficiency without affecting the backup window. This means dramatic savings in space, power, cooling and overall costs. With de-duplication, companies keep much more backup data on fast-recovery RAID arrays than with any conventional disk backup system.
