IT Press Tour 69: Cybee
A French data protection solution targeting MSP
This is a Press Release edited by StorageNewsletter.com on September 9, 2026 at 2:00 pmWe had the opportunity to meet Cybee during the recent 69th edition of The IT Press Tour held last week in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Eric Deronzier, founder and CEO, introduced the project, its roots, how the software service works, the go-to-market strategy and pricing model.
Cybee is a French startup founded in December 2022 in Lyon, part of the family-owned ARYME Group (Deronzier family), alongside its sister company Nuabee. It’s a simplified joint-stock company (SAS) with €50K share capital, backed by a €500K BPI France R&D loan and partnered with Hexatrust and Nuabee.

The founding team, Eric Deronzier, founder of Nuabee’s DRaaS business, and Gabriel Saudin, CTO, cloud architecture and Restic backup expert, bring over 10 years of cloud backup and cyber-resilience experience, building on the roots of Ysosecure (2002) and Nuabee (2014).

Cybee is built on four convictions: cloud is becoming the primary backup layer (Gartner predicts 75% of organizations will treat SaaS backup as critical by 2028), European data sovereignty matters (three US hyperscalers control ~70% of the European cloud market), reversibility/open formats are essential to avoid vendor lock-in, and performance must keep pace with exploding data volumes. Its mission centers on four pillars: large-volume backup with fast restore, up to 4TB/h per disk, full orchestration (integrity checks, pruning, automated fulfillment), ease of use (single agent for Windows/Linux, simple console, API, quick setup), and immutable, encrypted, post-quantum-resistant backups, summarized as “without immutable backup, no cyber-resilience is possible.”
Legacy backup tools, designed for the LAN era, struggle with cloud storage costs/dedup, slow multi-terabyte cloud restores, split Windows/Linux agents, and vendor lock-in from proprietary formats.

Built on the open-source Restic format, Cybee offers immutability, encryption, performance (image restore, WAN-aware orchestration, unified agent), and compliance by design (NIS2, DORA, ISO 27001).
Protected servers (Linux/Windows) connect through a Gateway to a Production Cloud stack (Auth, Orchestration, Storage Manager, Backup Manager, API/MCP), writing to multiple cloud storage providers.

Deployed via Nuabee’s Managed DRaaS workflow (CMDB modeling → backup config → VM recovery tests → full DR tests → monitoring), targeting Q3 2026 rollout. Benchmarks show major gains over prior tools, e.g., an 8TB/63M-file Windows filer goes from unrestorable 24h+ backups to a 3-hour snapshot with 10h RTO; a high-entropy 4TB UPD profile server drops from 16h restoration to 4h RTO using extreme SSD disks (100,000 IOPS, 1GB/s).
Compared to Storware (PL), Plakar (FR), Zmanda, Veeam, and Acronis (all US), Cybee is the only solution scoring fully positive across cloud-native design, open backup format, unified Windows/Linux agent, intelligent orchestration, and European sovereignty.
Phased rollout starting with Nuabee Managed DRaaS (H2 2026, 2,500+ critical VMs, 150+ companies), expanding to Orange Business Flexible Recovery (H1 2027, SecNumCloud/EUCS compliance) and other European MSPs (H2 2027). Target customers: 250+ employee organizations in regulated sectors (healthcare, finance, transport, industry, local government) and secondary B2B/retail sectors, distributed via MSPs.
The roadmap has been shared with H2 2026 with Windows/Linux image and file backup, MCP read deployment, 2,000 VMs; H1 2027 with database support (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB), AI R&D, 3,000 VMs; H2 2027 with new distributors, hypervisor support (XCP-ng, Proxmox); H1 2028 with further scaling.
For the pricing it starts at €5/month per VM, with traditional (à la carte S3 storage) and bundled (storage included) models; custom pricing to be determined for specific needs.
