Lenovo Doubles the Size of its US Manufacturing Facility in North Carolina, Reinforcing Long-Term Commitment to the State

Lenovo announced the expansion of its North Carolina Smart Campus (NCSC) in Whitsett, reinforcing nearly two decades of investment in the state while creating new manufacturing jobs and expanding US server production to support growing customer demand.The expansion builds on Lenovo’s global/local strategy with 30+ factories in 11 markets around the world, and its longstanding presence in North Carolina, where the company has operated since 2005 and has become one of the state’s top technology employers. Manufacturing operations are already underway at the expanded facility originally built in 2007, with more than 400 positions filled and hundreds of additional jobs expected as production continues to scale.

The multi-million-dollar investment expands the Whitsett facility footprint to 890,000 square feet (twice its original size) with an infrastructure ready for 20 megawatts of power and future-proofed for the next two generations of High-Performance Computing (HPC). Lenovo has added 35% more capacity, including its Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC), to its manufacturing footprint.  

The Whitsett facility expansion represents the next chapter in Lenovo’s long-term commitment to the state’s workforce, manufacturing ecosystem, and local communities. By expanding its manufacturing facility in North Carolina, less than an hour from its development labs, Lenovo is strengthening its technology supply chain while bringing production closer to customers, enabling faster delivery, greater flexibility, and improved responsiveness to growing customer demand. 

The NCSC is part of Lenovo’s global manufacturing network of more than 30 regional facilities strategically located close to customers across 11 markets including Argentina, Brazil, China, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Vietnam. Built over the past 20 years, Lenovo’s global/local strategy pairs global scale with regional production that strengthens supply chain resilience, supports local economies, and helps customers receive products more quickly. Producing closer to customers also shortens transportation distances and streamlines logistics, supporting Lenovo’s broader sustainability goals.
