Storware, a data protection software vendor specializing in multi-hypervisor backup and recovery, has announced the availability of Storware Backup and Recovery 7.5.
The release introduces native integration with Platform9 Private Cloud Director, extends the platform’s virtual-machine migration capabilities to Citrix Hypervisor and XCP-ng environments, and delivers targeted performance and operational improvements across OpenStack, Nutanix, and Proxmox.
Platform9 Integration
Version 7.5 adds native backup and recovery support for workloads running on Platform9 Private Cloud Director, an enterprise SaaS-managed OpenStack and Kubernetes infrastructure platform. The integration enables organizations using Platform9 to protect and manage their workloads directly through Storware without requiring additional tooling or separate platform licensing. Storware operates on a universal licensing model in which a single license covers all supported hypervisors and platforms.
V2V Migration Expanded to Citrix Hypervisor and XCP-ng
Storware has extended its cross-platform virtual machine migration capability – previously available for VMware vSphere to OpenStack – to include Citrix Hypervisor and XCP-ng as source environments. Organizations running either platform can now migrate workloads to OpenStack using the same backup-driven migration workflow, without a dedicated migration appliance.
The company says the move reflects growing demand for OpenStack as an enterprise-grade VMware alternative following the Broadcom acquisition.
“OpenStack is no longer a niche choice – it’s where serious infrastructure decisions are being made. Heterogeneous environments are the norm now, not the exception, and we intend to stay ahead of that curve,” said Paweł Mączka, CEO, Storware.
Nutanix v4 API and Proxmox Enhancements
The release adds full support for the Nutanix v4 API, including a redesigned VM backup workflow that aligns with the volume-group-based storage architecture introduced in current Nutanix AHV releases.
For Proxmox, version 7.5 adds compatibility with Ceph v19, removing a dependency constraint that had prevented some customers from upgrading their Ceph clusters. Additionally, synthetic (forever-incremental) backup is now supported for Proxmox environments using the SSH transfer strategy, reducing backup windows and storage overhead.
OpenStack and OS Agent Improvements
Several improvements targeting large and multi-tenant OpenStack deployments are included in this release: multithreaded reads for OpenStack and OpenShift Virtualization workloads deliver a significant increase in backup throughput; inventory synchronization is faster and more granular, with optional domain scanning and support for partial per-project updates via API; and enhanced backup metadata protection improves recovery consistency.
The OS Agent also receives reliability improvements to its metadata database handling and a performance optimization to the purge process for environments with large numbers of retained restore points.
Availability
Storware Backup and Recovery 7.5 is available immediately for existing customers with an active support agreement. Trial and evaluation versions are available via storware.eu. Full technical documentation is published at docs.storware.eu.
A detailed technical breakdown of all changes in version 7.5 is available on the Storware blog.
