Date founded:
July 2001
Founders:
Swissbit was founded in 2001 through a management buyout from Siemens Switzerland AG’s former semiconductor division.
Among the founding team was Silvio Muschter, today’s Group CTO and former CEO.
Just one year later, in 2002, Swissbit began production in Berlin, Germany – a location that remains central to the company’s operations.
In 2008, Swissbit made a strategic decision to focus exclusively on industrial-grade memory solutions, exiting the consumer market to serve demanding applications in industry, automotive, and embedded systems.
The company expanded its portfolio in 2013 with the establishment of a dedicated Security Solutions business unit, marking its entry into the growing field of hardware-based data protection. To further strengthen development capabilities, Swissbit opened its SSD development center in Westford, Massachusetts in 2014.
2019 saw the opening of a new, state-of-the-art production facility in Berlin, underlining Swissbit’s commitment to quality, innovation, and “Made in Germany” manufacturing. This was followed in 2021 by the acquisition of Hyperstone, a German microcontroller specialist, further reinforcing Swissbit’s technological foundation and growth strategy.
Since the beginning of 2026, Stefan Hofschen, former CEO of German Bundesdruckerei GmbH, has taken on the role of CEO, steering Swissbit into its next phase of innovation and expansion.

PCIe focus in 2026
Beginning in 2026, Swissbit will significantly strengthen its PCIe offering with the introduction of two new SSD core series:
- 8-channel PCIe SSD platform
A high-performance line designed for demanding industrial and edge workloads. It delivers low latency, wide-temperature support, industrial-temperature and high-endurance variants, plus extensive customization options tailored to specific use cases.
- 4-channel PCIe SSD platform for next-gen boot drives
Engineered to balance reliability, cost, and performance, this series integrates Power Loss Notification (PLN), enabling the controller to flush in-flight data during power interruptions to maintain data integrity. It is optimized for robust system boot and lightweight workloads.
Swissbit will also introduce new solder-down solutions, including next-generation e.MMC and PCIe BGA products, extending long-term support for embedded designs.
Securing the future of SATA
Despite industry migration toward NVMe, SATA remains essential for many industrial and embedded systems. Swissbit will launch its next-generation SATA platform, ensuring reliable long-term supply with a clear path to future NAND generations. Key features include:
- DRAM-less architecture for maximum value and lowest power consumption
- Roadmap support for upcoming NAND technologies
- Optional TCG Opal support for secure storage applications
Pricing model and price:
Swissbit offers competitive pricing within the industrial-grade memory and storage segment. Products such as industrial SSDs, SD, and microSD cards, e.MMC devices and embedded modules are typically sold through authorized distributors, including Mouser, Digi-Key, Rutronik, and others. End-customer pricing is determined by the distributors and varies according to capacity, interface, endurance class, and order volume.
For OEMs and large-scale projects, pricing is generally handled either directly with Swissbit’s sales team or via distribution partners. Quotes are tailored to specific technical requirements, qualification needs, and expected volumes.
GTM:
Swissbit’s go-to-market model combines a focused key account strategy with a strong global distribution network. To ensure worldwide availability and short lead times, the promotion and distribution of Swissbit products are handled by capable and trusted partners, including distributors, sales representatives, and web shops.

Comments
Swissbit belongs to the small list of European player sin the NAND flash area in a very challenging and competitive market clearly with dominance from Asian companies. We see a few others champions from US as well such as Micron or Sandisk but the reality is that the market is dominated, by alpha order, by China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
The company has made a clear move to vertical markets and industries and is recognized in these domains and is strong in SATA-based products. The management team also added a key solution area with security as a natural extension to flash/NAND storage products.
With the new CEO, Stefan Hofschen, joining recently, Swissbit appears to enter in a new phase of growth with new products fueled by key innovations, partnerships and new developments.
