The findings highlight a critical shortfall in the security maturity of enterprise storage and backup systems, revealing how far they lag behind other layers of the IT stack. In the face of a surge in breaches, growing exploitation of vulnerabilities, the vast amounts of sensitive data at stake, and increasing regulatory pressures, it’s clear that storage and backup security demands immediate and prioritized attention.
Key findings:
- 6,085 discrete security issues detected, tied to failures in over 390 core security principles.
- An enterprise storage and backup system has 10 security risks, with 5 classified as high or critical risk
- Top security risk categories include: authentication & identity management, unaddressed CVEs, encryption, access control and authorization, and incorrect use of ransomware-protection features
