2Q24 HDD Capacity Shipped Rises 11% Q/Q to 290EB, Units Top 30 Million
Nearline capacity lifts 14% Q/Q to 290 exabytes on 13.7 millon units
Seagate
Nearline HDD units jumped 14% Q/Q to 5.54 million on an 18% capacity uplift to 90.23EB. Average nearline capacity of 16.3TB rose 3% Q/Q while overall average capacity of 9.3 TB increased 6% from the prior quarter. Nearline unit share of 40.5% represented an SO-basis point improvement Q/Q while total unit share of 40.6% marked an increase from 38.1 % sequentially.
Toshiba
Nearline capacity of 24.62EB and 1.81 million units slipped 7% and 5%, respectively, while the company’s nearline market share of 13.2% fell from 15.5% in the prior quarter. Average HDD capacity of 5.5TB increased 3% Q/Q while unit share of 19.6% fell from 22.4% in the prior quarter.
Western Digital
Nearline capacity of 124.69EB jumped 16% Q/Q while units for the segment increased by 15% to 6.32 million HDDs. The company’s nearline unit share of 46% continues to lead the industry while it ceded the top share position for total HDD units in 2CQ24. Average nearline capacity of 19.7TB inched up 1 % Q/Q, while total average capacity of 11.9TB jumped 9% sequentially.
